REFERENDUMS & CITIZEN BALLOT INITITIVES

I do not believe that our elected officials will ever be able to vote without putting their personal gains in the forefront of their decisions on topics such as their own pay raises, line item veto and term limits just to name a few. In order to bring the kinds of reforms that are needed to make our elected officials perform their duties, I believe that anything that directly affects those elected officials should not be able to be voted on by those affected. I suggest that items, such as the examples above, are put on the General Election ballot and are decided by the people instead of the politicians that will most likely, never approve legislation that would affect them in ways they view as negative.

Citizen Initiatives will be presented to the State Assembly and Senate if the petition receives at least the number signatures required for a candidate to get on the ballot for State Senate. Likewise, if a Citizen Initiative receives at least the number of signatures required for a candidate to get on the ballot for Governor, the Initiative will bypass the State Assembly and State Senate and will appear on the next statewide ballot.
