New York is one of 44 states that grants their Governor the power of Line-Item Veto. This gives the Governor the power to exclude portions of legislation that reaches his or her desk. This power needs to be maintained in order to give the Governor the necessary power over the Legislative branch of government in the State of New York; ensuring that the Governor has the power to remove items from bills that do not belong in the bill as riders in order to meet political agendas over the need of the people. This power needs to be extended to the Assembly and Senate as well in order to allow the reviewing body to omit "riders" or unnecessary parts of the legislation being voted on.
